“I deserve…”

Stupidity-expanding

In a meritocracy, sure you deserve any loss or gain regarding wealth, but other than that the idea that anyone deserves anything from pain to success is really borderline delusional… Unless you’re thinking of “deserving” as “effect” in which case that would be true, it would just be an effort to account for all the factors that are necessary to create an effect. But “deserving” based on one’s relative goodness or badness or whatever isn’t a thing.

“I deserve…”

Cultural Appropriation

pharrell

I would say that The Last Temptation of Christ was a fine example of cultural appropriation. Meaning it took the symbolic value of the cross and of the Jesus mythology and gave it a new context. Consequently Scorsese made brilliant film with great artistic merit, taking the symbols and making something new with them. Similarly, heavy metal was the music-child of white people and yet bands like Living Colour and King’s X took its symbolic value and put it in a different context, consequently making masterful albums, and becoming two of the greatest metal/grunge legends of all time. Cultural appropriation is healthy for art and what’s healthy for art is healthy for culture and what’s healthy for culture is healthy for humanity as a whole rather than specific demographics.

Get Wealth FAST!!!

Get-wealth-quick schemes/seminars are cruel enough as is (consider it the Lottery’s meaner cousin, feeding off the poor, dumbly-optimistic and desperate) but religious get-wealth-now schemes are supremely fucked up. Rather than charging a ridiculous fee, they charge you the “moral tax”, also known as tithes and offerings, so you’re coerced into doing something for God so God can do something for you. So now wealth is contingent on your moral behavior so, arguably there’s a stronger pull to “do the right thing” which in this case would be to pay the man behind the curtain all you have… much like the parable of the woman in Matthew, who gave her last coin to the man of god…

Muh Patriarchy

ohbo

If there is a real thing that Tumblrians are fighting it is not patriarchal. Males and females have different benefits from society. In america it may be that men have more freedom (within limitation of cultural and social values) at the expense of having to adhere to that standard (i.e. You have to have a job but it has to be between these however many) and women have more security (within limitation of cultural and social values) at the expense of having to adhere to that standard (i.e. You can chose to stay home or have a job but you and your family’s life is not dependent on it). Social “rules” are built on the idea that people ought to benefit from them. The concept of a patriarchy implies only a benefit for males, which is why the notion of a patriarchy defeats itself, because both parties benefit and both parties lose. It seems like the issue is that social values don’t benefit both parties in the specific way that they would like to benefit from it. That’s not males dominating females, it’s people trying to function together in the most efficient way possible. Whether or not it is the most efficient social system can be up for debate but the objection that it is the result of a patriarchy is over-simplifying and a bit of a cop-put. Stop feeding the corporate trolls by allowing them to sell you the notion of a patriarchy. They have and always will make money on your stupidity.
